Block printing is a printing technique originating from India using hand carved wooden blocks.
Inspired by the large printing blocks that are used to print fabric in India, the Indian Block Printing Co. supplies a vast range of blocks in smaller sizes to make it an art everyone can enjoy.
The blocks we are use have been designed in the UK and hand-carved by artisans in India.
We use cotton fabric, calico, and paper to practice on today. Once you are confident, we will move on to work on the main project.
There is no limit to what you can print on from clothing, cushions, lampshades, and paper and much, much more.
Each workstation is laid out with a paint tray, foam mat, sponges, daubers, rag, nail brush, apron, practice fabric, and practice paper.
Our workshops are designed to be perfect for beginners as well as those wishing to develop their printing skills.
You get to choose one large item, i.e. cushion cover, tea towel, two napkins, or tote bag, and one small item, i.e. zip pouch, oven glove, or pot stand.
Cost is £55 per person for a three hour workshop.
Spaces are limited to 12 people.
All paints and ink blocks will be provided, as well as an apron to wear over your clothes.

This is a more advanced print. The design is three blocks with three different paint colours that are layered to make the final image. This. is a personal favorite of Elle's.

The design choice for this Christmas table was to make it last for more than one holiday. The design will work for winter dinner parties as well as for New Year too. Two of the napkins can be used all year whilst the other two match the table runner making it a more versatile set.

Just waiting for a summer party, picnic or afternoon tea.

I loved embroidering french and bullion knots with natural wool to make the sheep stand out.

This image is created by adding two paint colours to one block and doing a repeat print. The challenge is keeping your lines straight.

This design is created by using six blocks each with their own colour and doing a random design. Random is easier than it sounds!
